Director of Marketing Job

Flat Rock Playhouse is seeking a strategic thinker, marketer, and leader to serve as Director of Marketing and Communications.  The Director will create, develop, and execute both short-term and long-term strategic marketing plans to develop and grow an annual audience of more than 80,000, and ticket revenue in excess of $2.5 million. Reporting to the Producing Artistic Director, the Director of Marketing and Communications serves as a key member of the theatre’s senior management team.

The Director of Marketing and Communications is directly responsible for Flat Rock Playhouse’s marketing, branding, public relations, sales, front of house operations, customer service, community awareness and earned revenue generation.

Specifically, the Director:

  • Develops and directs the theatre’s subscription and single show sales campaigns to, identify, attract, cultivate, steward, retain and build audiences from year to year
  • Develops and oversees all sales and marketing strategies and plans, through robust, concept-driven campaigns including direct marketing, media planning and placement, e-commerce and social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube)
  • Sets and manages pricing to maximize sales and implements dynamic pricing strategies in coordination with overall business goals
  • Develops analytics and reporting to project and track sales and financial performance
  • Leads all public relations activities, cultivates media relationships, and serves as chief spokesperson; skilled in broadcast, print and social media
  • Directs partner programs including season and show sponsorships and playbill advertising
  • Leads and oversees Flat Rock Playhouse’s box office operations and customer interactions to ensure the highest-quality service and satisfaction
  • Maintains and improves website and online ticketing functionalities
  • Coordinates with outside vendors, organizational partners, and peers within the local theatre community to achieve Flat Rock Playhouse’s audience development objectives
  • Works closely with Development and Education departments to maximize organizational revenue by developing and executing sales and marketing strategies and plans for Development and Education programs
  • Directly manages the activities of 3-5 full-time staff members, including the Marketing Associate, Box Office Manager, Graphic Designer, and Group Sales Director
  • Serves as a member of the Flat Rock Playhouse senior management team, working with the Producing Artistic Director and senior staff as well as the Board of Trustees and other volunteers
  • Maintains department’s budget by tracking expenses

  • Proven media relations skills
  • Evidence of maturity, drive, enthusiasm and ability to build strong stakeholder relationships
  • Preference for a deadline-driven, multi-task environment; unwavering attention to detail
  • Superlative communication skills, especially in writing
  • Strong analytical abilities and intellectual curiosity
  • Proficiency in video and digital media best practices (social, SEO, display, etc.)
  • Experience with MS Word products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, others)
  • Love of theatre
